The next steps in 2026
The reinforced concrete staircase will be dismantled piece by piece. In spring and summer, the masonry inside the tower and at the base will be restored. After that, the new steel staircase will be lowered into the tower from above. In summer and autumn, the entire façade will be replastered. In autumn and winter, reconstruction of the bell storey will begin, using restored natural stone elements..
Work inside the tower
As soon as the weather reliably permits, the existing reinforced concrete staircase in the tower will be dismantled. Further demolition work will then be carried out inside the tower. This includes, for example, the removal of the spray plaster from the 19080s, the creation of openings into the “lost room” and the restoration of the historic masonry (as of January 2026).
Restoration of the viewing platform
In the area of the viewing platform, all damage to the natural stone (cracks, flaws, old additions or veins, etc.) was mapped. The individual shell limestones were then carefully dismantled, packed and lifted onto the construction site equipment. The reinforced concrete ceiling between the tower tower dwelling and the viewing platform was cut out. The last row of stones on the viewing platform was then dismantled.

Since August 11, the Perlach Pavilion has provided information about the tower’s history and upcoming renovations. The pavilion’s roof is formed by the 12-ton Perlach dome. For the next two years, you can admire it up close here, directly in front of City Hall.
Hats off!
On July 24, the moment finally arrived. At 8:45 a.m., the dome floated down from the Perlach. This highly technical milestone was successfully completed under the watchful eyes of numerous citizens. The dome had to be removed because renovation work is being carried out via the open tower shaft.
